Ignite Teaching Parent Roles

Each year, homeschool parents must sign a commitment to the teaching parent role as it pertains to the development stage of each of their enrolled students.

KINDERGARTEN - GRADE 3

Private Tutor:  At the elementary level, homeschool parents must be highly involved; teaching subjects not covered at Ignite, assisting their children with Ignite homework, grading some homework assignments when answer keys are provided, communicating with teachers, checking the daily summary and calendar, and setting up a structure for student success.

GRADES 4 & 5

Private Tutor Transitioning to Guide:  At the Intermediate level, homeschool parents should still be very involved; teaching subjects not covered at Ignite, assisting their children with Ignite homework as requested, and setting up a structure for student success. In preparation for middle school, parents need to gradually empower students to take on more responsibility and work more independently. Parents should encourage their children to communicate directly with their teachers through the online class management system, and to be accountable for their homework, materials, and grades, while also providing the oversight and support necessary for them to be successful.

GRADES 6 - 8

Guide:  At the middle school level, homeschool parents need to ensure students are learning subjects not taught at Ignite. Parents must remain aware of student work requirements and teacher communications, as well as setting up a structure for student success at home. Parents should assist students at the middle school level as requested. Parents should encourage their children to communicate directly with their teachers through the online class management system and to be accountable for their homework, materials, and grades, while also providing the oversight and support necessary for them to be successful.
